We often take our blessings for granted, but for some people, every day is a struggle. Such is the case of this zakat beneficiary, who has been blessed with a physical disability, and whose daughter suffers from multiple disabilities, leaving her bedridden and unaware of her environment and needs. His wife abandoned the situation, and he found himself unable to continue his shoemaking business due to childcare responsibilities and lack of funds. Single-handedly taking care of his daughter, he needed huge support to get back on track and provide for his family.

But there is hope! With the help of zakat donors, this beneficiary received the support he needed to restart his business. He is a very well-commended shoemaker, and with a shop and equipment, he can provide for his family and keep them together.

As Muslims, we are taught the importance of charity and helping those in need. The Quran says: “Those who spend their wealth [in Allah’s way] by night and by day, secretly and publicly, will have their reward with their Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve” (2:274). This verse encourages us to give in the way of Allah, and assures us that we will be rewarded for our generosity.
